Quote I read today

From this address

It takes courage to write even a bad book, courage and determination and invention. Even writers who aren’t very skilled do something astonishingly revelatory. We can even see the face of God in bad novels.

Sounds like someone making excuses for mediocrity to me. Here here to all the underachievers in the bookstores!

Sure, it takes courage to put yourself out there and expose the workings of your head. But it takes compassion not to waste other's time reading a bad manuscript.

This is why I avoid speaking in public generally. I've sat through too many bad talks, speeches & testimonies to want to consume other people's valuable time with my ramblings. But that's a whole 'nother topic. :)

i liked the address as a whole, and this comment was probably not ideally suited for being taken out of context. so my bad. but if you'd like an interesting read, the article is linked there.

I have been reading a lot of novels lately, some amazing, some okay, and I can't get over the fact that people can actually write a novel. I've heard that writers just have stories inside them that have to come out, and my mom is a short story author and has said similar things, but I have no such stories. Nor any songs for that matter. I'm afraid all of the space that might be filled up by those sorts of inspirations is occupied instead by my crazy animal addiction.
