Oddities

Get ready, get set! Slap your hands together and rub them back and forth in anticipation, because right now I shall confide the never-before-disclosed fact that if I've known you long enough, chances are there is a song that reminds me specifically of you. Exciting, no!!? Don't you feel all warm-cozy-special now?

Let's pause for a moment and ponder what this means: at any given moment in time, completely out of the blue I could suddenly hear "your song", and immediately I'm thinking fondly of you. I could be walking through the mall, or stopped at a light and the car next to mine is blaring it's radio, delivering clean laundry to my daughter's "radio-always-on" bedroom, sitting in church, messing around on my piano, on hold on the telephone. It could happen anywhere.

It's not that the lyrics, message, or even the melody have anything to do with you...I could have simply been with you when I first took note of the song. You could have sung along with the song within earshot of me. It could be the era we crossed paths during. You could actually loathe the song that reminds me of you (gasp!)

Some songs apply to a group of people. A very few people have multiple songs associated with them in my brain. If you're reading this and want to know what your song is (if any), feel free to ask in the comments section and I'll reply. If you want to change the answer you get, you'll have to work hard to put another song into my head for you ;-) So pick a winner!

As most of my readers know, I'm a flight attendant. Another oddity is that my brain associates my customers with whatever drink they ordered. So as they're leaving the aircraft, as my mouth is saying the words "good bye" and "thank you" etc., my silly little brain is actually thinking to itself, "goodbye coffee with 2 creams and 3 sugars", "see ya diet coke", "thanks for flying with us orange juice and cranberry mixed", " buh-bye FOUR Sky Vodkas before noon (I hope you have someone picking you up!!!)".

Do you do this or am I really the freak of nature I suspect I am?! ♥

Well, Yeah! I want to know what music pops to your head when you think of me! Do share! Cute about the drinks. Someday I hope you slip up and utter that out loud. >:)

BTW, I noticed my hymn comment finally came through as anonymous. I am the silent face behind Fount, Abide & Shepherd.

My first taker! Maybe my only taker!

Well, of course the song "lullaby for a stormy night" is indelibly linked with you and your family now...but before this fall, I have no idea why, but "I Love L.A." was the Kimber-song in my head. Please don't disinherit me! Also, if I ever hear a Hawaiian song or ukulele playing...you're right there with me babe! You're one of the special select few who has multiple associations in my brain. Now doesn't that just warm your heart and make you want to snuggle up with some comfort food?! ♥

I'm now caught up with your blog. I doubt you have a song for me, but I'll ask you about it anyway. I sometimes think of what "walk-on" music I'd play (if I were Paul Schaffer)for people as they made their grand entrance on the David Letterman Show. Schaffer always plays a relevant song for every Letterman guest as they walk onstage. I remember when they introduced Dave's cardiac surgeon Dr. Aroni and Paul's band played: "rice-a-roni the san francisco treat". I think I'd select "Jet" for your own introduction--or possibly "Bloody Well (W)right".

well, you're right, i don't have a super-strong association for you in my mind...which considering your musical background is surprising (a lot of people really don't have music in their lives).

But I do associate you with the song 100 years to live by Five For Fighting that I played for you to when you were here. And anyone jammin' on a guitar. I love the pics of my kids and you playing in our livingroom :-)

thanks for playing!

also, remember that these songs, unlike paul schaffer's, almost NEVER have anything to do with the person. I could have just been excited about it at a time when I crossed paths with you, and then it's connected to you in some weird "only-in-blue's-brain" kinda way. ♥

OOOOH AMD...I just remembered what makes me think of you! See, it's easier to do this in reverse. I hear the song and it brings people to mind. But not necessarily I think of the person and then think of the song, you see. So it took me a minute, but my STRONG AMD association is anytime I hear a song by Judas Priest. I'll let you figure out why! ;-)

Hi Kwis!
The group Genesis...i think we must have listened to the album on our road-trip as we barreled our way across the country back in 1988. That's my best guess as to the why.

Someone else I used to know gets the "Throwing it all away" song though.
